Google’s recent Made by Google 2024 event introduced the new Pixel 9 lineup, featuring the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. With the addition of the Pixel 9 Fold Pro and a variety of size options, Google aims to provide users with a diverse range of choices in the smartphone market.
The Pixel 9 Pro now offers the same 6.3-inch display as the base model but with a higher resolution of 1280 x 2856. The new Pro XL model features a larger 6.8-inch display at 1344 x 2992 pixels, catering to users who prefer a bigger screen. The displays on these devices are brighter than their predecessors, reaching up to 2,700 nits and are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The industrial design has also seen an update with sharper corners and a more prominent rear-facing camera bar, giving the devices a modern and sleek look.
The Pixel 9 sports a dual rear camera setup, while both the 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL come with a triple camera setup. The base model includes a 50-megapixel wide camera, an 8x Super Res Zoom, and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens. On the other hand, the Pro models add a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and up to 30x Super Res Zoom. Additionally, the Pros feature a 42-megapixel selfie camera. Google has also enhanced its AI-based editing tools, introducing features like Add Me, which allows users to edit themselves into group photos, and Magic Editor, which offers automatic image reframing and crop suggestions.
One notable change in the Pixel 9 lineup is the inclusion of the new Tensor G4 chip across all models, accompanied by the Titan M2 security chip. The base Pixel 9 comes with 12GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB or 256GB, while the Pros feature 16GB of RAM and storage capacities of up to 1TB. All models are equipped with a 4700 mAh battery for the 6.3-inch devices and a 5060 mAh battery for the XL model. Google promises up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge, extending to 100 hours with Extreme Battery Saver mode activated.
The Pixel 9 is priced at $799, the Pixel 9 Pro at $999, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL at $1,099. Preorders for these devices started on Tuesday, with the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL set to ship on August 22. However, the release date for the Pro model is yet to be determined. Additionally, all new Pixel handsets come with a seven-year guarantee of OS and security updates, as well as access to new features through Pixel drops.
Google’s latest Pixel 9 lineup offers a range of choices, from the base model to the Pro and Pro XL variants, catering to different user preferences and needs. With upgraded displays, cameras, AI features, and performance capabilities, these devices are poised to compete with other flagship smartphones in the market.
